TCM EVENT SERIES PRESENTS THE BIRDS

The first time that I watched the movie The Birds I was about 7 years old. And boy after I had seen that movie I was frighten of birds! Good thing it was for a short time that I had a fear of birds, because I absolutely love my feather little friends and can't see life without them.

Alfred Hitchcock had a way of making a simple story feel so suspenseful. And this movie is a good example of that.

Can you believe The Birds have been around for 50 years? And for one day on Wednesday, September 19th, NCM Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies, and Universal bring this American classic back to the big screen, newly restored and in celebration of Universal's 100th Anniversary. Isn't that fantastic!
I saw this film on a small television. I can't imagine how it would be to watch it on the big screen and newly restored.

Turner Classic Movies Host Robert Osborne will introduce the movie and share with us an exclusive interview he conducted with the film’s star Tippi Hedren specifically for this special presentation. Hedren will not only reveal how “Hitch” hand-picked her to play the part of Melanie Daniels but also how the movie that launched her career -- ended it.

So are you ready? The Birds is coming!

Old Time Radio / Variety Shows

Ever since I remembered I always loved listening to radio shows. And now that I am older I find myself listening to more radio shows than ever before. I find that listening to the radio is much more mentally stimulating than watching T.V. At the same time I find it to be a lot of fun, relaxing, interesting, and very creative.

I especially enjoy listening to my the classics radio shows in the evening before I retire to bed. I get a kick out of the comedy shows. What a great way to end the evening with humor and laughter instead of the evening news.

Thanks to the internet and Archives.gov you can now enjoy some great old time radio shows!

Here is a list of several old radio shows that I am sure you too will enjoy!

Radio Comedy

Radio Drama / Adventure

Radio Science Fiction

Emma: A Victorian Romance

This past weekend I finished watching Downtown Abbey's last episode for the season. And now I feel totally bummed out! How am I going to survive? Where can I get a classic romance story fix for the coming months that is based on the 19th century era?

I love this cartoon! Who says that adults can't watch cartoons?

It's been years since I saw an episode of Emma. And you know what I never finished watching season one. Also I just found out that there was a season two. I can't help it. I am a busy married woman that have to also keep house, just like Emma. Well, not quite.

For those who haven't heard about this anime cartoon this is not, I repeat, this is not the novel Emma by Jane Austen.

This story of Emma is actually set in Victorian London at the end of the 19th century. Emma is a maid who falls in love with a member of the gentry. However, the young man's family disapproves of him associating with people of the lower classes.

I am sure that this story has already intrigued you like it did me.

So now that Downtown Abbey is in hiatus here in the States. I will have plenty of time to start preparing for my Spring cleaning and to catch up with episodes of Emma.
